DEFINITION

Symptomatic disease that occurs in someone infected with M. tuberculosis or other mycobacteria from M. tuberculosis complex. This term is broadly used but is outdated. The preferred term is ‘tuberculosis’.

Illness in which TB bacteria are multiplying in different parts of the body. The symptoms of active TB disease include cough, weakness, weight loss, fever, loss of appetite and night sweats. A person with active TB disease may be infectious and spread TB to others
