Treatment offered to people considered at risk of tuberculosis to reduce that risk. Also referred to as “treatment of M. tuberculosis infection” or “tuberculosis preventive therapy”.

Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
Tuberculosis vaccine (live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis) named after the French scientists who developed it, Albert Calmette and Camille Guérin.
Tuberculosis exposure
Situation in which any person has been exposed to a person with bacteriologically-confirmed tuberculosis (or to air containing M. tuberculosis).
Isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT)
Therapy with isoniazid (usually self-administered for 6 months) to prevent development of tuberculosis.
